Ferns coach Jitka Klimková: ‘We know what we have to do to improve’

Football Ferns head coach Jitka Klimková says she was proud of the fight shown by her inexperienced side in the series opener against the world champion United States.

But she acknowledges the game got away from the New Zealanders after the break when the visitors took control of the game, leading to a 4-0 win at Wellington’s Sky Stadium.

“We had a tough 20 minutes and that was the biggest lesson for us for the next one, we really need to defend,” she told RNZ.

“They are very experienced and they proved it, so if we can improve it in the next game, that will be the key for us.”

The next game is on Saturday when the two teams meet at Auckland’s Eden Park (4pm).
