Mixed success at international level but a double celebration for the Wellington Phoenix — that was the football weekend in New Zealand.

The Ferns lost 5-0 to world champions United States before a record 12,721 crowd at Auckland’s Eden Park, while our national U-17 men’s team move a game closer to qualifying for November’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru.

At Wellington’s Sky Stadium on Sunday, Phoenix fans cheered home the women’s and men’s teams to vital victories in their respective A-League campaigns, the first time the sides have both won on the same day.
