Sam Negash will be the first team head coach for Waiheke United’s upcoming Lotto NRFL Championship season.
Negash was assistant coach with the with the side last season, and coached the club’s U-23 men’s team.
He replaces Thabiso Tleane who stepped down from the role at the end of last season.
Announcing Negash’s appointment, the club said he had built “great respect and friendships” with the younger players last season.
“Sammy’s passion for youth, community and knowledge of the game will be on show this season as we participate in the NRF Championship,” the club said.
Waiheke were relegated from the Northern League last season but reached the quarter-finals of the Chatham Cup.
