Commentator Jason Pine: ‘Probably Klimková’s most disappointing performance’

Football commentator Jason Pine has described New Zealand’s 5-0 loss to Portugal as “probably the most disappointing performance of Jitka Klimková’s tenure” as the Ferns’ head coach.

Pine told NewstalkZB listeners he thought the Ferns display had been “tepid” and “very, very disappointing”.

He said he believed Klimková was past the point of no return in terms of the players she had been selecting, as there were only half a dozen more opportunities to play games ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in July.

Two of those games, against Argentina, already had the squad selected and Klimková needed to find a way for those players to perform.

Pine, who called the Portugal match for Sky Sport, urged the coach to give an opportunity to Michaela Foster who had been the standout player this A-League season for the Wellington Phoenix.
