Australian club Eastern Lions have recruited two free-scoring wingers in Eddie Wilkinson (from Christchurch United) and Thomas Golding (from Manukau United).

The Melbourne-based Lions play in the National Premier Leagues Victoria 2 competition, in the third tier of the Australian league pyramid.

Wilkinson (22) had an outstanding season for Christchurch United in 2022, scoring 19 goals in the Southern League and three goals in the club’s return to the Men’s National League.

Golding (22) joined Manukau United midway through the 2021 season from Birkenhead United after spells with Bucklands Beach, Bay Olympic, Waitakere United, Auckland City, Central United and Three Kings United.

He scored seven goals for Manukau United in 21 appearances last season.

The Lions’ biggest signing of the summer was Japanese Kentaroh Oi (38), who played 400 games in 20 seasons, 17 of these in J-League 1, the top tier of Japanese football.

The veteran defender was signed by the Lions in an effort to win immediate promotion after being relegated from the Victoria 1 league last year.
