Oratia United grant Honorary Memberships to long-serving volunteers

Oratia United’s members have bestowed Honorary Membership on long-serving club volunteers Julie Sutton and Ian Quintal.

The pair were recognised for their contributions at the club’s Annual General Meeting on February 23, 2023.

In a tribute to Sutton, the club said:

“Julie Sutton has been a big part of Oratia for many, many years and during that time has fulfilled numerous positions in a volunteer capacity.

“Julie has and still is a valued part of our coaching team and can always be seen out on the park putting the girls through their paces.

“Julie put her hand up to take over the girls coordinator role and we have seen this group of players, coaches, managers grow and continue to represent the ‘Tia with pride; she has shown a passion for this area of the club.

“Julie has served on the board and stepped up as the club’s bar manager. Despite all the above, Julie still finds the time to play and is an integral part of the Originals — flying the flag for women’s sport.”

Of Quintal’s contribution, the club said:

“Ian arrived at Oratia over 10 years ago and stepped into a coaching role looking after the ‘Tia Div 1 squad followed by the women’s team.

“Ian also put his hand up to coach junior teams when we were short of coaches and can be down at the park early on Saturday mornings setting up for 7th grade match days.

“Ian has served on the Sports Board for years and took on the role of administrator for the academy and holiday programmes. The sometimes-thankless task of gear manager is something else Ian has taken on.”
