Birkenhead United midfielder Corban Piper has signed to play for League of Ireland first division club Wexford.

Piper (20) impressed Wexford manager James Keddy in pre-season, when he came off the subs’ bench as a triallist in the side’s friendly with Dundalk.

Wexford are based in the south east of Ireland and play in the League of Ireland’s second-tier competition.

Piper headed overseas in search of a club at the end of last season, in which he was Birkenhead United’s Young Player of the Year.

The Aucklander was not included in Wexford’s matchday squad for their 2-1 loss on Friday to Cobh Ramblers, another club that had discussions with him in pre-season.

Piper has been with Birkenhead throughout his senior career but had stints as a youth player with Auckland City and North Shore United.

He learned his junior football with Hibiscus Coast.
