After a surprising move into the Football Ferns midfield on Thursday, Kate Taylor has also been named in the centre midfield for Wellington Phoenix for their Sunday afternoon game against Sydney FC at North Harbour Stadium.

Taylor (19) has usually played as a central defender for club and country.

In other changes to the Phoenix starting line-up:

  • Experienced midfielder Betsy Hassett is left out of the squad after losing her race to recover from a broken nose in New Zealand’s game against Argentina on the same ground, on Thursday.
  • Forward Paige Satchell is named on the bench after returning to the Phoenix camp following three games for the Ferns.
  • Mickey Robertson starts in place of Satchell.
  • Alyssa Whinham is on the bench after a recovery from injury.
  • Goalkeeper Corina Brown is on the bench as an injury replacement instead of Georgina Candy.

The fixture is the Phoenix’s first match on home soil since they broke through for a resounding 5-0 win over Canberra United five weeks ago.

The team have only played two A-League matches since January 22, due to a bye and last week’s FIFA international break.

The North Harbour game is the first-ever Phoenix women’s fixture in Auckland.

Fixture
