Wharfies sign Finn Diamond and Jorge Akers for new Central League season

Central League club Waterside Karori have boosted their attacking options with the signings of striker Jorge Akers and central midfielder Finn Diamond.

Akers (22) is a New Zealand U-20 and U-23 international who crosses the capital to join from rivals Miramar Rangers. His time at Rangers was badly disrupted by a serious leg injury in November 2021.

Diamond (22) has Lotto NRFL first team experience with Albany United, Northern Rovers and Northland, for whom he played last season.

He was Northland’s top goalscorer with 13 goals.

He heralded his arrival at the Wharfies with the social media message: “I’ve come down from the north for war. Burn the boats.”

Akers said: ‘I’m excited to get started with this talented group of boys and our coaching staff to take the team to the next level!’

Meanwhile, Waterside Karori have confirmed the re-signings of two experienced players, Lewis Miller and Harry Fautley.

Miller: “Stoked to sign as a wharfie for another year, there is a great feeling around the club. Looking forward to taking the next step in 2023.”

Fautley: “Buzzing to be back in black and white for another season. The club has seen some great additions over the off-season and everyone is looking forward to the season ahead.”
