One of the world’s best practitioners of beach football has been in New Zealand, promoting the version of the game ahead of this year’s Oceania World Cup qualifiers for the FIFA Beach Football World Cup.
Angelo Schirinzi, the current coach of the Switzerland beach football team, is regarded as a global authority on the sport, having played, coached and written a manual on the sport.
New Zealand won’t be represented at the qualifying tournament but Schirinzi and OFC’s head of development, Paul Toohey, told 1News they are hopeful the beach format will get a foothold in this country.
