Four Auckland clubs have partnered to stage a day of football events in South Auckland, including three games with a touring Australian club.

Hosts Mangere United, along with Onehunga Mangere United, Manukau United and Otahuhu United, are promoting the event at the Pacific Football Hub, Mangere, on Sunday March 19, 2023.

The event is part of Girls and Women’s Month and is supported by Northern Region Football.

Judith Prasad, Mangere United’s project leader for the FIFA Legacy Programme, describes the event:

“A day dedicated to our girls and women footballers for the 2023 season. If you are thinking of playing football or just to learn what we are all about, then do join us.

“As part of our FIFA Legacy programme, we need more women administrators too, so we are not just looking for players and teams.”

Games

10am: Mangere United Maramas v Australian Terriers (open grade)
11am: Onehunga Mangere United v Australian Terriers (16/17 grade)
12.30pm —1.15pm: Lunch break, fun activities.
1.30pm: Manukau City Combined v Australian Terriers (open grade)

Prasad said: “Other than football games, we are running a tour of our gender-neutral facility that we hope to share in our community to grow the game of football amongst girls and women.

“There will be great food and a fun tryout game, season registrations and a briefing during lunch about our club goals.

“So come along and support our club. Centre Park has a great children’s playground, and the live steamers are running.

“We look forward to hosting our community at the Pacific Football Hub.”
