Here are the results and scorers from Friday night’s football in the Southern League and Lotto NRFL women’s competitions.
Southern League
In the Southern League, Cameron Rean scored a double in his debut for Ferrymead Bays against his former club, Coastal Spirit, helping his new team to a 3-0 win.
Read (20) had the distinction of scoring the first goal of the Southern League season, at 7.23pm, and then doubled his side’s lead before half-time.
The experienced James Deehan (36) finished off the scoring with a second-half penalty.
Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League
Western Springs beat newly-promoted Hibiscus Coast 5-0 at Seddon Fields, starting their season with a few new names in their squad.
These included Tiana Hill (from Hamilton Wanderers) and a surprise appearance off the bench of defender Maia Jackman, in her first domestic competition game in five years.
The legendary Football Fern, and official FIFA women’s Legend, played nine minutes in a late cameo.
