Auckland ‘keeper Nick Burke claims first team spot with Sydney’s St George

Auckland goalkeeper Nick Burke has landed a first-team spot with Sydney National Premier League side St George.

Burke (23) headed to Australia after spells with Auckland clubs Fencibles United, Bucklands Beach, Manukau United and Manurewa.

As a youth player, he trained with the national U-17 squad and played for Auckland City, Onehunga Sports and Waitakere United.

Burke also spent time playing at Niagara University in New York State, United States.

St George are one of the newly-promoted sides in the 2023 NPL NSW after winning the NPL2 last year.

Reserves teams from A-League clubs Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers and Central Coast Mariners play in the 16-team competition.

After missing round 9 through suspension, the ‘keeper returned to help St George earn a point with their 1-1 draw against Central Coast Mariners at Easter, making an important save early in the match.
