Eastern Suburbs to learn OFC Women’s Champions League opponents in live-stream

National women’s champions Eastern Suburbs will learn their group opponents in the OFC Women’s Champions League in a draw to be live-streamed on Thursday May 4.

Suburbs, who qualified for the inaugural OFC competition by winning the 2022 Women’s National League, face five club teams in the nine-day tournament that starts on June 1.

The tournament will be staged in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, having been postponed from its original schedule of March 9-18.

The establishment of the competition is expected to provide a pathway for an OFC club to represent the region at a FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in 2025.

Participating teams

The qualifying teams are:

  • Eastern Suburbs (New Zealand)
  • Hekari United (Papua New Guinea)
  • Labasa FC (Fiji)
  • AS Academy (New Caledonia)
  • Kiwi FC (Samoa)
  • Koloale (Solomon Islands)

The draw

The draw will be live-streamed from OFC’s Auckland headquarters at 1pm on Thursday May 4, 2023.

OFC Head of Competitions Chris Kemp will conduct the draw with OFC Women’s Football Manager Emma Evans.

Women’s National League to expand

The New Zealand Women’s National League will expand from eight to 10 teams in 2023, with the winner qualifying for the 2024 OFC Women’s Champions League.
