Western Springs women’s match postponed due to ‘exceptional circumstances’

Friday night’s Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League match between Western Springs and Auckland United has been postponed.

In a statement on Thursday evening, Northern Region Football said the fixture had been postponed at Western Springs’ request.

NRF Chief Executive Laura Menzies said:

“We consider this request meets the ‘exceptional circumstances’ threshold for postponement set out in the competition regulations, out of compassion and concern for the players’ mental, physical and overall welfare given the current situation.

“We acknowledge the postponement’s disruption and will continue to work with all parties to help resolve this situation.”

NRF are helping mediate a breakdown in the relationship between players in the Springs team and the club’s board.

Reports had suggested Springs players would not take the field in Friday’s game as a show of support for coach Ryan Faithfull who has parted company with the club.
