Auckland City moved into second spot on the Northern League table with a 3-1 win at Western Springs in Friday night’s floodlit match.
Joe Lee scored a double while Ryan De Vries continued his recent run of goals as a second-half substitute to give the Navy Blues their seventh win of the season.
Springs’ goal came from a Christian Gray own goal.
Meanwhile, Canterbury’s Ferrymead Bays and Marlborough’s Nelson Suburbs became the first names to go into the third-round draw for the Chatham Cup as they won Friday cup ties.
Bays beat Southern League rivals FC Twenty 11 2-1 in their tie.
Daniel Thomas grabbed the winner for Ferrymead seven minutes into stoppage time for a come-from-behind win.
Nelson Suburbs routed Motueka 9-0 with Connor Gillespie scoring seven of them, including a hat-trick in the first 12 minutes of the match.
