VIDEO: A journey to possibly the most beautiful football pitch in the world …

New Zealand Tourism have released two short videos to promote the beauty of Aotearoa through the story of a young girl as she takes her football from Hobbiton to Aoraki Mt Cook.

The first video shows off some of the country’s most beautiful tourism destinations ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia, starting on July 20.

The girl’s journey finishes at the foot of Aoraki Mt Cook where she joins in a game of football on a specially-prepared pitch that’s possibly in the most beautiful setting anywhere.

The pitch took six weeks to make with every effort made to cause minimal disruption to the landscape, using non-toxic and water-durable paint capable of fading after completion of the video.

The players who took part in the match were drawn from girls from Timaru’s West End AFC, Twizel Area School and Arowhenua School.

For a separately-made video, the girls in the match were joined by Football Ferns Katie Bowen and Emma Rolston, and the New Zealand Football national referee development manager Lindsey Robinson, who refereed the game.
