Two Auckland clubs chasing Chatham Cup/Kate Sheppard Cup double

Auckland clubs Eastern Suburbs and Western Springs are chasing a rare opportunity to collar New Zealand’s top knockout trophies for men and women.

Both clubs have reached the final stages of the Kate Sheppard Cup and the Chatham Cup, which is in its 100th year.

Springs knocked out Chatham Cup holders Auckland City in the men’s competition on Saturday and the club’s women then reached the semi-finals of the Kate Sheppard Cup with a win against Fencibles United on Sunday.

Eastern Suburbs were the first club into the Kate Sheppard Cup semi-final draw when they won their quarter-final in midweek against Ellerslie.

The men Lilywhites then beat Birkenhead United 2-1 on Sunday to clinch a spot in the Chatham Cup quarter-finals.

Both competitions go to an open draw from now, meaning sides from different regions can be drawn against each other.
