Smith double salvages point for Royals in Women’s South Island League

Dunedin City Royals needed two second-half goals to salvage a point in their midweek Women’s South Island League clash with local rivals Otago University.

University went 2-0 within 12 minutes of kick-off, forcing Royals to fight back with a second-half brace from Shontelle Smith.

The 2-2 draw leaves Royals in second place, three points behind leaders Cashmere Technical who have a game in hand.

This weekend, Technical and third-placed Coastal Spirit are well positioned to further their title claims with games against the competition’s bottom two sides.
