Sunday’s opening game at the OFC Olympic qualifying tournament between New Zealand and Papua New Guinea has been called off.

The Oceania Football Confederation announced on the eve of the match that PNG “have been unable to travel to New Zealand.”

“The match will not take place,” OFC’s statement said.

The game was due to take place at Go Media Mt Smart Stadium, Auckland, at 3pm.

“As per FIFA regulations for the Preliminary Competitions of the Olympic Football Tournaments Games of the XXXIII Olympiad Paris 2024, the matter will be referred to the relevant FIFA judicial bodies,” OFC’s statement said.

The tournament winner qualifies to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

On Friday, tournament organisers announced all games at the tournament, except for the final, would have free admission.
