Football Ferns midfielder Malia Steinmetz has agreed a two-year contract with Danish Superliga club FC Nordsjælland.
Steinmetz (24) joins the club after playing for Western Sydney Wanderers in the women’s A-League, and having been a regular starter in the New Zealand team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“I already love being here. FC Nordsjælland is an exciting club, and when they showed interest, it was not a difficult choice for me.
“The club is constantly developing, and I am looking forward to being part of the organisation, where I hope that I can develop both as a player and as a person.
“It has been an absolutely incredible summer with both the WC and now my transfer here. I am ready for the upcoming challenges, and the WC has only made me more hungry for experiences, which is why this is the right step for me.
“I hope that I can contribute a lot of experience to the squad, which I can pass on to the young players. On the other hand, I also hope that I can learn a lot from them, as I know that it is an incredibly talented team.”
‘She fits perfectly into our playing style’
FC Nordsjælland’s sporting director of the Women’s League team, Jessica Davis, said:
“We are incredibly happy to be able to add Malia to our already strong squad.
“We had the opportunity to follow her during this summer’s WC finals, where she impressed us.
“She fits perfectly into our playing style, and we are sure that with her qualities she will strengthen our Women’s League team.
“Despite her young age, Malia has already experienced a lot in her football career, where she has, among other things, played a number of matches under great pressure and with many spectators, which we believe will be an invaluable addition to our young team.”
