Ferns to play Chile in first international game since FIFA Women’s World Cup

The Football Ferns will play Chile in Santiago in late September in their first game since the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Head coachJitka Klimková’s team will take on the La Roja femenina on September 23, 2023 (NZT).

New Zealand are currently rated 26th in the FIFA women’s world rankings while Chile are 41st.

The two teams will meet again on September 26. 2023 (NZT) for a behind-closed-doors game.

The match will be the first time the two sides have faced each other for an international friendly.

Klimková said:

“After an amazing FIFA Women’s World Cup, the most important thing for the team is that we keep up the momentum. I’m delighted to announce our next international fixtures.

“Olympic qualifying isn’t far away, so it is important that we start the process now. We are committed to our growth; we want to qualify so we can represent Aotearoa New Zealand at the Olympic Games in France next year.

“The support from our fans and the entire country during the FIFA Women’s World Cup was incredible. I know the team can’t wait to put the Fern on again and get out on the pitch.”
