Canterbury’s UC Football have won their two-legged play-off with FC Nelson, taking a step closer to winning promotion to the Southern League.

The Universities of Canterbury team have beaten FC Nelson 3-0 at English Park, Christchurch, to win the play-off ties 5-2 on aggregate.

A penalty from Hemi Innes and a goal from Charlie Bayly gave UC Football a half-time lead, and put them a goal ahead on aggregate.

Bayly extended the lead to 3-0 soon after half-time and the home side’s job was made easier when FC Nelson were reduced to 10 players in the 77th minute with the sending off of William Scott.

UC Football will now play a two-legged play-off with Otago’s Roslyn Wakari, with the winner taking the place of relegated FC Twenty 11 in the Southern League.
