Northern Rovers looking for first team coach after Gothard takes new role

Northern Rovers will recruit a new men’s first-team coach for the 2024 season after appointing current coach Paul Gothard as the club’s Director of Football.

In an announcement via the club’s social media, Rovers said it was establishing a full-time standalone role of Director of Football, and Gothard had agreed to accept the position.

“It was always the club’s intention to grow to a size where we could support a standalone full-time role for a Director of Football,” the announcement says.

Gothard said:

“With the club growing and getting stronger over the last two seasons, I have made the decision to focus on this growth and step away from the men’s first-team coaching role to be able to put more time into our development of our junior and youth plavers coming through.

“I have loved my time working with the senior team but at this stage, this is the right decision for the club to have me fully focussed on growing the boys and girls’ teams and creating a player pathway for all players.”

Rovers finished ninth in the Lotto NRFL Men’s Championship last season.

Gothard joined Northern Rovers in May 2022 after being the head goalkeeper coach for the Wellington Phoenix.
