Takapuna name Daniel Semp as head coach for next year’s Championship season

Takapuna have appointed Daniel Semp as their men’s head coach for next season’s Lotto NRFL Championship campaign.

Semp, the club’s Youth Director of Football, replaces Chris Milicich who left the role at the end of last season, having been the club’s Director of Football since 2021.

Club chair Glyn Taylor said Takapuna had undertaken “a robust recruitment process”.

“Not only do we believe we have the right man for the job, to be able to promote from within the club environment speaks to our commitment to develop pathways, at levels for both players and coaches,” he said.

“Daniel will continue his excellent work in the youth development space as he shares the club’s vision to grow the base through nurturing the positive development of young footballers.”

Takapuna were relegated from the Northern League last season, after being promoted in 2021.

“As a player, I’ve experienced both the fight out of the first division and the test of character necessary to deliver consistently in the Northern League.

“Since arriving as a player in 2021, I have been absolutely committed to Takapuna FC and, in 2023, I was honoured to take on the role of Youth Director, a position that has allowed me to contribute to the growth and development of the club from a different perspective.

“The youth are the future of our club, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to witness their progress and passion for the game.

“I am truly humbled by the opportunity the club has given me. It represents a significant step forward in my coaching career, and I’m eager to take on this responsibility with enthusiasm and dedication.

“There is no doubt 2023 will be a tough season as the club fights to return to the Northern League, but we can now work to build a team with the heart, culture and passion to get the job done.”
