Newly-promoted UC Football name coach for 2024 Southern League season

The Southern League’s newest club, UC Football, have appointed Aldo Miramontes as their new men’s head coach for 2024 and beyond.

Announcing the appointment, UC Football said: “Aldo comes to us holding an OFC-Pro licence, the highest coaching qualification currently available within New Zealand.”

Miramontes (35) joins the Universities of Canterbury-affiliated club from Southern League rivals Coastal Spirit where he was the men’s U-20 coach in the 2022 season.

Before joining Coast Spirit, he was an assistant coach at clubs in Montevideo, Uruguay.

UC Football won promotion to next year’s Southern League after winning Canterbury’s New World Premiership, and then overcoming FC Nelson and Otago’s Roslyn Wakari in an end-of-season play-off series.

They replace FC Twenty II who were relegated.
