Eight teams gather in Wellington to decide national U-17 boys’ championship

The national U-17 boys’ champions will be decided over the weekend with eight of the country’s best youth teams meeting for a three-day tournament in Wellington.

The teams will play at the NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport at Upper Hutt, starting on Friday afternoon.

The games will be live-streamed by NZCIS (links below).

Participating clubs are Nomads United, Fencibles United, Selwyn United, Wellington Phoenix Academy, Auckland United, Western Suburbs, Onslow/North Wellington and Birkenhead United.


Games to be played on Friday November 3, 2023

M1: Nomads United v Fencibles United
NZCIS 2, Upper Hutt, 1.30pm

M2: Selwyn United v Wellington Phoenix Academy
NZCIS 3, Upper Hutt, 1.30pm

M3: Auckland United v Western Suburbs
NZCIS 2, Upper Hutt, 4.30pm

M4: Onslow/North Wellington v Birkenhead United
Petone Memorial Park, Lower Hutt, 7pm

This game was transferred to Petone Memorial Park at 7pm due to adverse weather conditions, and could not be live-streamed.

Games to be played on Saturday November 4, 2023

Four second-round games will be played, matching first-day winners against each other and first-day losers against each other.

M5: Loser M1 v Loser M4
NZCIS 2, Upper Hutt, 10am

M6: Loser M2 v Loser M3 
NZCIS 3, Upper Hutt, 10am

M7: Winner M1 v Winner M4 
NZCIS 2, Upper Hutt, 1pm

M8: Winner M2 v Winner M3
NZCIS 3, Upper Hutt, 1pm

Games to be played on Sunday November 5, 2023

The two undefeated teams will meet in the Grand Final.

Other teams will play off for 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8 placings.

M10: Winner M5 v Winner M6 (5v6 play-off) | 11.30am – Field 3

M12: Winner M7 v Winner M8 (Grand Final)
