Men’s U-17s coach Martin Bullock: ‘The players gave everything out there’

New Zealand head coach Martin Bullock says his players gave their all, despite losing all three of their games at the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup in Indonesia.

“I don’t know what more they could do — they gave everything out there,” he said after his side’s 4-0 loss to Mexico in their final group game.

Bullock said it was disappointing to lose but Mexico had “really made it difficult for us.”

He felt New Zealand had played particularly well in the first half of the first half, when they created chances but could not finish them.

Bullock said the players’ families could be “insanely proud” of what the players had managed against some top football nations.

“There are some emotional boys out there,” he said, referring to the obvious disappointment of the New Zealand players at the final whistle.

“But they’ll bounce back,” he said.
