VIDEO: All White striker’s goal kicks off big weekend for the Mata brothers

Football’s Mata brothers are celebrating a big weekend for their family with a much-needed goal at one end of the planet and landing a national trophy at the other.

All Whites striker Max Mata (23) scored his first goal for his English club Shrewsbury Town in their 2-1 League One win against Port Vale in the early hours of Sunday (NZT).

Hours later, brother Ben Mata (25) led his Wellington Olympic team to victory in the Grand Final of the Men’s National League at Auckland’s Go Media Stadium Mt Smart.

Max Mata joined Shrewsbury this year after a successful stint with League of Ireland club Sligo Rovers.
