National body presents ‘debut caps’ to more than 50 former Football Ferns

More than 50 former Football Ferns have been recognised for their contributions to the national team with the presentation of debut caps.

Of all the players to have played for the Ferns, more than 150 made their international debuts before the tradition of cap presentations became the norm for them.

NZ Football brought together past Ferns for a special function and ceremony at Go Media Stadium Mt Smart on November 25, 2023, during the Wellington Phoenix women’s and men’s A-League doubleheader.

In the lead-up to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, NZ Football recognised the 204 players who had represented the Ferns till then, commissioning a warm-up jacket to be worn during the tournament that contained all their names.

The jacket was number 24, recognising that the 24th member of the World Cup squad was all those who had gone before.
