Wellington Phoenix chairman Rob Morrison has been appointed to the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) board.
Morrison has been chair of the Phoenix since 2011 when the Welnix consortium took over ownership of the club.
Under his leadership, the club has built an academy programme, which now boasts eight age-group teams for young men and women, established an A-League women’s side and moved the first teams to the state-of-the-art New Zealand Campus of Innovation and Sport (NZCIS) in Upper Hutt.
Morrison has a distinguished career in finance and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. He was the CEO and chair of Hong Kong-based CLSA Asia Pacific Markets after being the executive vice president and head of equities at Bankers Trust Australia and CEO of Bankers Trust New Zealand.
He was also chairman of Kiwibank until 2017 and is the current chair of H.R.L Morrison & Co, the New Zealand Advisory Board and Pure Advantage, as well as being a director of the Asia Pacific Council, The Nature Conservancy and Antarctica New Zealand.
APL board chair Stephen Conroy has welcomed Morrison’s appointment.
“Rob brings extensive experience in financial management, investment and governance, and has been involved with the A-Leagues since 2011,” Conroy said.
“His internationally respected business career, combined with his passion for Australasian football and experience in building a successful football club makes him a hugely valuable member of the APL board.”
