VIDEO: All Whites goalkeeper Max Crocombe ends year on a high

New Zealand international goalkeeper Max Crocombe has ended 2023 with a win, a clean sheet and provided the assist that led to his club’s match-winning goal in England’s League One.

Crocombe (30) played a crucial part in Burton Albion’s 1-0 win against Blackpool in the Boxing Day fixture at Pirelli Stadium.

With 10 minutes gone, Crocombe carried the ball to the edge of his penalty area, and saw teammate Bobby Kamwa high up the pitch, on the left touchline.

Crocombe’s 75-metre punt found Kamwa who chested down the ball, turned and fired the ball into the Blackpool box, where it evaded defenders and attackers alike to creep into the far corner of the goal.

Post-match analysis confirmed Kamwa’s effort was not touched on its way into the goal, and Crocombe was credited with his first assist of Burton’s 21-game campaign.

Auckland-born Crocombe joined Albion for the current EFL season after leaving League Two club Grimsby Town at the end of his contract.

Last season, he played every minute of Grimsby’s season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 59 games.

His performances earned him a recall to the All Whites after a five-year absence.
