Tim Hayes to take over as men’s first team coach at Whanganui Athletic

Whanganui Athletic have named Tim Hayes as their men’s first team coach for next season.

Hayes (53) has been coaching the first team at Whanganui Collegiate, under the guidance of Matt Calvert.

“He is a fantastic teacher of how to coach, which enabled a very quick development for myself in that role,” Hayes has told Athletic followers via the club’s social media.

Athletic were relegated from the Central League last season, after gaining promotion in 2022.

Hayes joined Whanganui Athletic as a schoolboy in 1988 and has played National League football for Miramar Rangers and Wellington United.

He also played semi-professionally during a spell in the United Kingdom.

The club says Hayes is keen to build on the work of his predecessors.

“After that, his focus will be on planning for how the club can scale new heights in seasons to come.”
