New concept for men’s over-50s league to launch in Auckland next season

A new competition for men over 50 will be launched in Auckland in 2024, without the need to play games home and away.

The league — to be called the Aotearoa Pacific League — will host all games at the same venue, Mangere Centre Park.

Mangere United, who will work with Northern Region Football to get the league underway, say: “This league is … based on feedback from clubs and a demand to play at one location, rather than travelling all over the city.”

United say the competition is open to all clubs in the NRF region, and a minimum of eight teams will be needed to get the new concept underway.

The competition will be part of the NRF Legends structure, and teams will be invited to participate in the NRF Legends Knockout Cup.

Playing regulations will be set by NRF, and teams will enter via the Comet competition system.

“NRF and Mangere United will be working closely together in the New Year to ensure smooth planning and delivery of this new competition,” the club says.
