Football Fern Deven Jackson has scored her first goal in the women’s A-League, running half the length of the pitch to complete a fine solo effort for her Canberra United club.
Jackson’s goal in the 31st minute gave bottom-placed Canberra a 2-1 lead against the Newcastle Jets but they finished the match with a 3-3 draw.

Jackson (25) signed for Canberra this season from Eastern Suburbs after resurrecting her football career following a three-year break.
She played junior football for Bay Olympic and played her early senior women’s football for Three Kings United.
Jackson moved to the United States in 2017 to play at Western Kentucky University but injury disrupted her time there.
After a three-year break from the game, she joined the Eastern Suburbs side that won the Women’s National League grand final in December 2022, scoring twice in their 4-0 win against Western Springs.
She made her debut for New Zealand in the international friendly against the United States in early 2023 but was not selected for the FIFA Women’s World Cup squad.
