Auckland’s Metro FC are looking for a new women’s first team coach following the resignation of John Ellis.

The club told its social media followers on Friday February 9: “Metro FC would like to announce that early this morning, we received an official resignation of our women’s first team coach, John Ellis, after being approached by another club.

“We would like to thank John for all his time and effort he put into the team.”

Before joining Metro for the 2023 season, Ellis had coached Tuakau and Glen Eden men’s first teams in New Zealand, and had coached girls’ and women’s football in the United Kingdom.

Metro says it is now seeking a replacement to lead their team in the 2024 NRF Women’s Conference.

Last season, Metro finished second in the six-team competition behind Birkenhead United, who have been promoted to the 2024 Lotto NRFL Women’s Championship.
