A wasted goal opportunity 10 minutes into stoppage time has become an immediate contender for the men’s A-League’s ‘miss of the year’.
With time almost up against Melbourne Victory, the Central Coast Mariners broke upfield and attacking midfielder Josh Nisbett was presented with an open goal from eight metres out.
After hesitating, his shot was blocked. His second attempt cannoned off the crossbar. The rebound was headed goalwards by a teammate and deflected past the post.
Luckily for the Mariners, they already had a 1-0 lead and took the win to move within three points of league leaders Wellington Phoenix.
