Phoenix A-League match rescheduled because of likely All Whites call-ups

A fixture reshuffle means the men’s A-League match between the Wellington Phoenix and Brisbane Roar will be played on Easter Sunday, not Good Friday.

The Wellington Phoenix’s round 22 Isuzu UTE A-League match will kick off at 1pm (NZT) at Sky Stadium, allowing All Whites in the Phoenix squad more time to recover from playing in the W Cup in the UAE during the international window in March.

The Nix expect about half a dozen frontline players will be called up to the national squad for the four-nation tournament, which will take place from March 22-26.

Wellington’s match against the Roar will take place less than 24 hours after the Phoenix women play host to Western Sydney Wanderers at Porirua Park in the final round of Liberty A-League.

“The Phoenix would like to thank Australian Professional Leagues (APL) and the Brisbane Roar for accommodating their request, and apologises to fans for any inconvenience caused by this fixture change,” the club said.

Tickets already purchased for the original March 29 date remain valid.
