Draw made for OFC U-16 Men’s Championship tournament in Tahiti

New Zealand will play Vanuatu, Fiji and Cook Islands in their group at this year’s OFC U-16 Men’s Championship tournament.

The eight-nation tournament will be staged in Tahiti from July 28 – August 10, 2024.

The draw for the tournament was conducted at the OFC Home of Football ‘Te Kahu o Kiwa’ in Auckland on Tuesday March 5, 2024.

Former Solomon Islands captain Henry Fa’arodo drew the teams’ names from the pot, while presenter Andrew Dewhurst oversaw the draw.

The OFC U-16 Men’s Championship decides which nation represents Oceania at the 2025 FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup.

The venue of the 2025 World Cup is yet to be confirmed but bidders to host the tournament include a combined bid from Indonesia and Singapore.

The U-17 World Cup is scheduled to become an annual tournament from 2025. It’s previously been held every two years.

OFC have confirmed all games in the Championship and in the qualifying series will be streamed live and free by FIFA+.

Qualifying series

The qualifying series will be held in Tonga from April 13-19, 2024.

The four nations competing for the qualifying spot in Group B are:

  • American Samoa
  • Papua New Guinea
  • Solomon Islands
  • Tonga
