RESULTS: Friday night wins for Auckland City and West Coast Rangers

Defending Northern League champions Auckland City are off to a winning start with a 3-0 victory against neighbours Auckland United in Friday’s Dominion Road Derby.

They led 2-0 at half-time in the season opener at Keith Hay Park before putting the game beyond doubt with a Ryan De Vries goal in the 79th minute.

In the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premier League, West Coast Rangers beat Kate Sheppard Cup holders Western Springs 3-1 in the opening game of the competition.

Returning Japanese player Rina Hirano put Springs ahead in the 37th minute but Rangers levelled through Luci Hollister to send the teams all square at the break.

Goals from Shannon Henson and Catherine Smith sealed the win for Rangers at Fred Taylor Park, Whenuapai.
