New Zealand have lost to Tunisia in the play-off for third place at the ACUD Cup tournament in Egypt, after a penalty shootout was needed to separate the sides.
The score was 0-0 at the end of regulation time, and Tunisia won the series of spot kicks 4-2.
All Whites skipper Liberato Cacace and Tunisia’s Elias Achouri were sent off after an altercation at the final whistle.
During the game, VAR reviews overturned two refereeing decisions — one that became a penalty for New Zealand, and another that denied the All Whites a penalty.
Midfielder Sarpreet Singh missed the first-half penalty for New Zealand.
