Women’s and men’s squads named for World University Futsal Championship

New Zealand will send strong women’s and men’s squads to June’s FISU World University Futsal Championships to be held in Shanghai.

The squads named to travel to China include Futsal Ferns and Futsal Whites, and many top-performing players from the recent Ford Futsal Superleague series.

The women’s team will be coached by Futsal Ferns head coach Nic Downes while the men’s side will be led by Futsal Whites head coach Marvin Eakes.

The FIAU tournament runs from June 10-16, 2024 and is expected to have 16 teams in both the women’s and men’s sections of the competition.

Past FISU tournaments

The last FISU championships were held in Portugal in July 2022, and New Zealand entered teams in the men’s and women’s competitions.

In 2022, the women finished 4th while the men came 7th in their respective competitions.
