A stoppage-time goal from All White defender Finn Surman has given Wellington Phoenix the win they needed to guarantee the club finishes in the top two of this season’s men’s A-League.
Surman headed home a free kick curled into the Melbourne Victory box by substitute Oscar van Hattum, sparking huge celebrations on and off the pitch at the final whistle.
The goal, and a superb diving save by goalkeeper Alex Paulsen to deprive Victory of a second half goal, were the two biggest moments in a tense match at Sky Stadium.
