Former Ferns forward Helen Arjomandi scores hat-trick in new season return

Former New Zealand international striker Helen Arjomandi has started another comeback with a first-game hat-trick for her latest club, Taupō.

Arjomandi (35) has turned out for Taupō in the WaiBOP W-League, helping them beat Tauranga Blue Rovers 4-1

She found the net in the 6th, 40th and 56th minutes to show the goalscoring ability that made her one of New Zealand’s leading strikers for Waikato clubs Claudelands Rovers and Hamilton Wanderers.

Arjomandi (nee Collins) played in Kate Sheppard Cup finals for both those clubs, and scored 36 goals in the premier women’s knockout competition, only one short of the record held by fellow Fern Katie Rood.

She scored six goals in her 28 appearances for the Football Ferns.

Arjomandi hung up her boots nearly five years ago, but after a two-year break, she returned to competitive play, joining Wanderers to play in the Lotto NRFL Women’s Premiership and helping them reach the Kate Sheppard Cup final in 2022.

Now, she’s back on the pitch and Football Fern #161 is showing she’s still got her goalscoring touch …
