WaiBOP Football are seeking nominations from affiliated clubs to elect members to their board, for which two positions are vacant.

Nominations close on April 20, 2024, and voting to elect board members will be held at the federation’s annual general meeting on Monday May 20, 2024.

In its call for nominations, WaiBOP Football says:

“The WaiBOP board plays a vital role in fostering the growth and development of football in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions by providing leadership, governance, financial management and strategic direction.

“Board members are volunteers, who attend at least 8 board meetings a year — usually monthly, from February to November.”

Skills and experience

WaiBOP Football says candidates will ideally:

  • Have a finance/accounting or commercial background.
  • Have long-term strategic ability (adopt a strategic perspective and see the ‘big picture’).
  • Understand how an organisation needs to be structured and operated to deliver the appropriate results.
  • Be able to enter meaningful discussion about an organisation’s current financial position and future financial requirements.
  • Understand or are willing to learn the issues facing football and related stakeholder interest.
  • Recognise the value of diversity at the board table.
  • Be committed to the Federation’s purpose, values, ethical responsibilities and its contribution to the health and wellbeing of communities.
  • Be effective team members, demonstrate leadership and yet can ‘disagree without being disagreeable’.

“We welcome nominations from anyone based in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, however, as a board committing to diversity and representing our community, we are particularly seeking nominations and representation from outside Hamilton, especially from Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty,” the federation says.

Previous governance experience is desirable but not a requirement.
