The battle to win the men’s A-League Premiers’ Plate will go to the wire next Wednesday after the Wellington Phoenix beat Macarthur 3-0 in front of more than 15,000 fans at Sky Stadium on Saturday.

While the Phoenix were winning their 15th game of a memorable season, nearest rivals Central Coast Mariers were beating Newcastle Jets 3-1.

That means the Mariners can clinch the Premiers’ Plate with a win or draw against eighth-placed Adelaide United on Wednesday May 1 (9pm NZT).

Meanwhile, results of other matches played later on Saturday and on Sunday, will determine the order of the top six teams destined for finals play-offs.
