WATCH: Ferns midfielder Malia Steinmetz scores in Danish Cup semi-final

New Zealand international Malia Steinmetz is close to a place in the final of Denmark’s Gjensidige Women’s Cup after scoring for her FC Nordsjælland club in the first leg of their two-legged semi-final.

FC Nordsjælland beat Næstved HG 7-0 in the home leg at Right to Dream Park, in Farum.

FC Nordsjælland won the cup in 2023, and their big semi-final win has put them in sight of back-to-back finals.

Their task was made easier when a red card reduced Næstved HG to 10 players shortly before half-time.

Steinmetz (25), who has played 29 internationals for the Football Ferns, joined FC Nordsjælland last summer and says she hopes to experience a cup final experience of her own.

“I have heard a lot about the cup final last year and everyone still talks a lot about it,” she told her club’s website.

“It was a really big thing for the club, and it would be great to be able to play us in a cup final for the second year in a row.

“We have a strong belief that we can.

“Personally, it would also be fantastic for me to reach the final. One of the reasons why you play football is precisely to get to play exactly such matches.”
