New Zealand international Michael Boxall has helped his Minnesota United side to a 2-1 win in Major League Soccer, scoring early in the club’s home game against Sporting Kansas City.

Minnesota were awarded a corner in the opening minute of the game, and Boxall met it at the far post, to the delight of home fans.

Boxall (35), who has 49 caps for the All Whites, extended his contract with Minnesota last December. He’s been with the club since 2017 and has played more than 190 games for them, more than any other player.

Sunday’s win lifted Minnesota to fourth place in the MLS Western Conference, a point behind co-leaders Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy, but Boxall’s team have a game in hand.
