New Zealand international Max Crocombe has won his English club’s Player of the Season award.

Goalkeeper Crocombe (30) received almost half the votes cast by Burton Albion supporters for the annual award after having a stellar first season with the League One club.

After receiving the award in late April 2024, he told Albion’s website:

“I realised when I came in it was a big step, so I knuckled down and waited for an opportunity. I take a lot of pride from staying in the team with such a quality goalkeeper behind me like Jamal (Blackman).

“It has been a difficult year but nothing gets given to you and we have leaders in the team and worked hard for everything.”

Burton Albion avoided relegation from League One by two points, thanks to other teams losing their final games.

Auckland-born Crocombe joined Burton Albion after his contract with League Two club Grimsby Town expired in 2023.

His performances for Grimsby Town earned him a recall to the All Whites after a five-year absence from the national squad, and he’s become a regular choice for head coach Darren Bazeley.
