PREVIEW: Phoenix make history with Friday night debut in Kate Sheppard Cup

posted in: Kate Sheppard Cup, News

The Wellington Phoenix Reserves will play their first-ever Kate Sheppard Cup tie on Friday night when their match against Wellington United kicks off the competition’s first round.

The sides meet at Newtown Park at 7pm.

A change of competition rules has allowed the Phoenix to enter the Kate Sheppard Cup and the Chatham Cup for the first time, providing the club doesn’t field players who have professional status.

In Christchurch, Selwyn United and Cashmere Technical also play under Friday night lights in a first round tie.

The rest of the round will be played over Saturday and Sunday, while a dozen clubs have byes.
